AVILA, DE LA HOYA Defeat Foes on LA FIGHT CLUB on Thursday Night
Manuel ”Tino” Avila showcased his skills against a game Erik Ruiz 13-3 (6KOs) on Thursday night in front of a full house at the Belasco Theater in Downtown Los Angeles, in the Golden Boy Promoted main event of the evening.
Avila used a whip-like Jab and left hand, shooting it from the hip, using his legs and cracking right hand most of the night at Ruiz, who took the fight on less than two week’s notice as Avila’s original opponent, Rolly Lunas pulled out with an injury.
Ruiz tried his best, but Avila was too sharp and agile, but seemingly hurt his right hand in the later rounds, as he only used his left in the final round, except for two right hands just before the bell rang to end the Super Bantamweight battle.
Scores were 100-90 on all cards for Avila, who moved his record to 17-0 with 7KOs.
De La Hoya Wins Tough Outing
On the co-featured bout, Oscar De La Hoya’s nephew, Diego De La Hoya 10-0, (6KOs) was put in tough against southpaw Ramiro “Zurdo” Robles 12-3-1, (6KOs) who gave De La Hoya all he could handle, absorbing everything with ease and still coming forward to put pressure and punches together against the favored De La Hoya.
De La Hoya went on to win via a somewhat lopsided 80-72 on all cards.
Colombian Super Bantamweight Oscar “El Jagura” Negrete kept his ”0” intact, moving to 9-0 with 3KOs, following a shaky start against former world title challenger, the veteran Luis “Titi” Maldonado Jr. 38-14-1, (29KOs)
Negrete was shaken up in the first round, gathered his senses, put on punches together, including some head butts in the second round which left Maldonado with a bloody cut on his hairline above his forehead which never stopped bleeding for the remainder of the bout.
A clean shot busted the bridge of Maldonado in the fourth, with another accidental clash coming in the fifth,cutting the Mexican alongside his right eye. The doctor halted then bout, sending it to the cards.
Scores came back as a 50-46 and 50-45 (twice) technical decision for Negrete.
In other results, fan favorite, Featherweight Nicholas Arce 3-0, (2KOs) stopped Marco Alcaraz (0-6) at 2:04 of the second round, following four knockdowns, including one called a trip.
Debuting Super Welterweight Diego Padilla n a four round unanimous decision against Zachary Cooper 2-1-2, (0 KOs). Cooped was down in the second frame.
Padilla won via 40-35 on all cards.
Super Bantamweight Emilio Sanchez 7-0, (5KOs) defeated Eliezer Agosto 2-5, (2KOs) at the end of four.
Sanchez scored a knockdown in the second frame en route to a 40-35, 39-36 (twice) decision.
Lightweight Jesus Delgado 5-0, (2KOs) halted Benjamin Vision 1-3, (0KOs) in three.
Referee Dave Mendoza stopped the fight at 2:34 of the round after Vision had taken enough punishment in the contest.
