Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, NJ (HBO) – Ageless wonder and WBA/IBF light heavyweight champion Bernard Hopkins, fast approaching age 50, stepped into the ring Saturday night to face off with undefeated, power-punching, WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev. Would time catch up with Philadelphia’s boxing wonder? Would Kovalev land his vaunted right hand bomb and stop Father Time in his tracks?

There was a lot on the line for both fighters as a win for Kovalev meant getting some props as more than just a limited boxer with a powerful punch. A win for the Hall of Fame-bound Hopkins meant a few more possible options for more blockbuster bouts. While UCNLive will have detailed stories in the days to come, here are the results from a great night on the Jersey shore.

Unbeaten WBO light heavyweight world champion Sergey “Krusher” Kovalev, 26-0-1 (23), dominated 49-year-old IBF and WBA light heavyweight world champion Bernard “The Alien” Hopkins, 55-7-2 (32), winning a one-sided, 12-round unanimous decision. Scores were 120-107, twice and 120-106. After the fight, Hopkins said it was “50/50” as to whether he would continue on with his professional career. Now, we can hope Kovalev heads north to Canada and goes after Adonis Stevenson, who holds the WBC light heavyweight title. However, after this bout, I doubt Stevenson is in any rush to see Kovalev across the ring from him. Kovalev showed patience and walked Hopkins down all night. His size and strength difference was evident early and often throughout the whole fight. Hopkins appeared in survival mode throughout most of the fight as he seemed to realize Kovalev could hurt him at any time.

Nadjib Mohammedi KO 1 Demetrius Walker. Mohammedi is rated No. 1 by the IBF and is the organization’s mandatory light heavyweight title challenger.

Vyacheslav “Czar” Glazkov TKO 7 Darnell Wilson

Vyacheslav Shabranskyy TKO 2 Emil Gonzalez

Eric Hunter TKO 6 Daniel Ramirez

Sullivan Barrera TKO 4 Rowland Bryant

Andrey Sirotkin UD 6 Michael Mitchell
